The Nimba masks are the most common form of art from the Baga people. It is the protector of pregnant woman, represents the mother of fertility, and was also used in ceremonies. During a event the dancer would wear it on his shoulder and look through the hole in the middle. However this excellent piece is a replica and was most likely created for decoration and selling purposes.
